Category Description
The competition task is to make a typical piece of furniture that may be a table, a chair, a chest of drawers, a cabinet or other similar item. Competitors must be able to use the basic machinery and hand tools of cabinetmaking appropriately, follow safety regulations and select a working order that best suits the task. The finished piece of furniture has to have a high precision of measurement and meet the quality requirements. The item of furniture will be made of materials given at the competition venue, according to the drawings and working instructions.

Category Description
This category is based on the curriculum-based training of a basic vocational degree in Woodwork. Stonemasons perform their tasks individually. The competition tasks are based on the requirements of level 3 (on a scale of 1-3) as described in the curriculum-based training of a vocational degree in Woodwork

Semi-Finals

The Semi-Finals will be held on January 29, 2011 in four different towns. The registration period ends one month before the semi-finals. The semi-finals last for one day and the competition time is estimated to be from four to seven hours. The competition tasks will be prepared from blanks. The competition time and date are the same for all organisers. One student per beginning group per institute can participate. The semi-finals will be arranged in four different areas of Finland, and the two best competitors from each semi-final will go on to the Finals.
The national category supervisory group will decide if necessary the number of competitors per institute. The competitors will receive guidance in the use of the machines and tools before the start of the competition. The competitors if needed may have the use of an advisor, who will be provided by the organisers.
The Finals
The Finals are to be held May 3-5, 2011 in Kuopio. Eight competitors, at the most, will be selected on the basis of the Semi-final results.
The competition task is public and will be published 2 months before the Final competition, the jury along with the organisers of the category, will alter the published task approximately 30%.
The competition task is modular so that results can be evaluated daily.
The timetable will be made during March 2011.

Preliminary Evaluation Method
The jury will decide the standings of the competitors by giving points to each competitor. The WorldSkills CIS based point system will be used, in which the category maximum points are 100 points. The performance will be evaluated in modules. The jury and the category organisers will decide the final evaluation criteria.
In the case of any competitor endangering themselves or others, the competitor can be disqualified.
Taitaja 2011 Diploma
Competitors will be given a diploma for completed competition tasks. The diploma can be used as a basis for evaluation of competence tests. The competition tasks of this category are based on the requirements of level 3 (on a scale of 1-3) as described in the curriculum-based training of a vocational degree.
