Participation is open to young people studying for a qualification in vocational education who have been born in 1991 or after. The vocational basic degree training refers to an education that will lead to a basic degree, or that is a preliminary training in an institute or as an apprentice.

General Category Description and Basis for the degree
The category is based on the requirements of level 3 (on a scale of 1-3) as described in the curriculum-based training of a vocational degree in Building Maintenance Technology, the study programme in Heating, Plumbing and Ventilation Engineering, and on the demands put on young employees in the workplace. After completing the degree, graduates work mainly in installation and maintenance.


The plumbing competition category and curriculum-based areas of expertise:


-Basics of construction techniques
-Heating, plumbing and ventilation installation
-Welding techniques
-Measurement, control, and automation techniques
The following study programme is suitable to compete in the category:
-Vocational Qualification in Building Maintenance Technology, study programme in Heating, Plumbing and Ventilation Engineering

2 competitors / institute may participate in the semi-finals. Eight competitors will be chosen in the semi-finals to compete in the finals.

Task description, scope, and competing time


The time allowed for the tasks during the three competition days is 18 hours. Each competition day will comprise of a module; modules A, B, and C.


The competition task can be completed as the vocational skills demonstration in Vocational Qualification for Building Maintenance Technology, Heating, Plumbing, and Ventilation Installation.


Registration: Monday, May 2, 2011 starting at 12.00. Getting familiar with the competition area takes place between 14.00 and 16.00


May 3, 2011. Day 1 of the competition is Module A. The work starts at the information desk at 8:30 and at 9:00, and ends at 17:00, this includes meals and other breaks, actual work time is 7 hours.


May 4, 2011. Day 2 of the competition. Module B. 9:30 to 18:00, including meals and other breaks. Work time is 7 hours 30min.


May 5, 2011. Day 3 of the competition. Module C. 8:30 to 12:00, including meals, work time is 3hr 30 min.


Preliminary Evaluation Methods


The jury is made up of representatives from working life and teachers. The judges will decide the ranking of the competitors by giving points to each competitor. The World Skills CIS point system will be used in which the maximum points for each category is 100. The performances are evaluated every day. The final evaluation criteria will be decided by the jury and the supervisory group.


The performance will be evaluation in general on accuracy, functionality, work safety, and the final results.

 

Before the task begins, detailed information on the main points to be evaluated will be given along with the instructions for completing the task.
Results will be published daily.


In case that a competitor risks his/her own or someone else's safety, it is possible to disqualify the competitor.

Evaluation forms will be given to the head judge and turned in for point calculation within one hour after completion of each task performance. Results will be published daily.


Number of competitors


There will be 8 competitors and possibly one competitor from abroad.


The size of the competition area


The plumber category competition area is approximately 10 m x 20 m, which is divided into 8 competition booths, a break room for the jury and competitors, and possibly a competition booth for the competitor from abroad.


The size of the competition booth is approximately 2.4 m x 1.2 m. In addition, the competitor will have the use of space in front of their competition booth, approximately 2.4 x 3 m.


Competition tasks and materials


An open description of the task will be sent to competitors and their representatives, two to three months before the competition begins. The actual competition task, which will be changed approximately 30% from the open task, will be given at the competition.
The pipe materials are composite and copper pipe, and compression and threaded fittings.


Taitaja 2011 Diploma


Competitors will be given a certificate for completed competition tasks. The certificate can be used as a basis for evaluation of vocational skills demonstration. The competition tasks of this category are based on the requirements of level 3 (on a scale of 1-3) as described in the curriculum-based training of a vocational degree.


International Competition


If the competitor would like to continue competing after the National Taitaja competition, the competitor can apply for international World Skills training. The competitor may apply to any active training unit. A list of training units can be found at www.huippuosaamista.com.

Specific instructions for the competition


Specific instructions needed for the competition will be given to the finalists in written form on the first day of competition.
