In conjunction with the Taitaja competition, the TaitajaPLUS vocational skills competition is organised for students with special needs. Students taking part in the TaitajaPLUS competition have a disadvantage or disability that affects their everyday life.

An Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for TaitajaPLUS competitors is a prerequisite for participation. The competitors have to be at least 15 years old, but there is no maximum age-limit.

The TaitajaPLUS competition takes from 1 to 2 days, and the daily competing time varies between 3 and 6 hours. In the individual competition events there are 3 to 8 competitors and in the team events there are 3 to 6. The registration fees are lower than in the other Taitaja categories.

In the TaitajaPLUS categories, Taitaja timetables are strictly followed for registration, qualifying, etc.

The TaitajaPLUS categories for 2011 are: Property Maintenance, Cleaning Services, and the Catering category pair competition for cooks and waiters. The demonstration category is Preliminary and Rehabilitative Training.

In the Osaan Taitaja competition categories, it is also possible to participate as an 8 + 1 competitor. For details about requirements for registering to be an 8 + 1 competitor, see Taitaja Rules, section 5.1. Inquiries about specific categories in 8+1 will be sent to the organisers responsible for the Taitaja competition categories.
